In the decade of gold and glitter, the late 70's, Donna Destri, a starry-eyed Brooklyn gal, along with brother and Blondie keyboardist Jimmy Destri, hit the edgy downtown scene with the simple dream to perform. That ambition, along with stunning good looks and innate talent, soon landed her on the now legendary stages of CBGB and Max’s Kansas City.

Indeed, Donna not only headlined regularly at Max’s Kansas City, but also performed with the likes of The Ramones, Paul Zone and The Fast, Klaus Nomi, Cherry Vanilla, Jayne County, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (now Oscar and Tony Award winning composers and producers), and UK-chart toppers Man2Man. And with her long-running and wildly popular one-woman show, Diary of a Bad Housewife, Donna was at the very epicenter of the downtown music and performance scenes – a New York City star as only that great and storied city can create.

Of course, Destri is no stranger to the recording studio, releasing not only her own dance-chart hit and Bowie cover Rebel Rebel on Mainman Records (along with an award-winning video) in ’82, but also contributing backing vocals to Blondie’s benchmark LP Eat to the Beat. But it is for her exceptional vocal contributions to Blondie’s phenomenally successful comeback album of ’99, No Exit, that Donna is most proud – and rightly so. Choir-like, her astounding voice rises and soars throughout the smash single Maria, and her classic, girl-group harmonizing with Deborah Harry on the inspired cover Out in the Streets is a standout. For the past five years, Destri has been busy recording dance music that's been very successful on the European club scene.

Now, Destri will ride again... this time bringing the songs and stories of her youth to the stage at The Laurie Beechman Theater.
